Top performers in every field surround themselves with those who inspire them, who seek to build them up, and who push them to reach beyond their current limits. I am Phil Buchanan, executive chairman of Cannon Financial Institute. I designed Monday Morning Mojo to provide you with a weekly spark, a push and motivational insight to live your best life.
Thanks for joining. Well, good Monday morning everyone. It is Phil here with episode 698 of Monday Morning Mojo. When I wake up each morning, one of my duties is to let our two dogs bullet and Bella out the house to do their morning business. Now, this morning when I woke up, it was raining, and I'm not talking about a light mist, but I'm talking a hard, steady rain as I let the dogs out the door.
Bullet and Bella were not happy creatures. I grabbed my raincoat, an umbrella and dutifully dressed. I let them out the back door. They took a couple of steps and then attempted to retreat back inside where it was dry and warm. Obviously, that was not an option, so I went out with them into the yard and stood by seeing I wasn't going to let them go back inside.
They eventually ventured out into the yard and took care of their business. This morning as I headed to work, I passed a power company bucket truck with a power company lineman up in that bucket truck repairing a power transformer that had blown later as I drove along, I watched a school crossing guard, stopped traffic for kids and their parents as they were dressed in rain jackets and umbrellas, walking across the street to school.
Now did any of us, did me, did the power a linemen did the kids, the parents, the crossing guard, did any of us prefer to perform these activities in the rain versus being able to do them on a bright, clear day? Well, no, I seriously doubt it. I certainly didn't. But rains, storms, snow, ice, wind, they are all weather phenomenon's that we've learned to deal with as we live our lives.
We don't usually prefer them over blue sky days, but life must go on. You know, we also encounter other less than ideal situations in our personal and professional lives. These can be minor inconveniences or outright stormy situations. Now, experience has taught me that complaining about bad weather or the storms that we face personally and professionally, rarely helps the situation.
What does help is the ability to prepare, to be able to move forward, even in the midst of less-than-ideal circumstances. If it's raining, putting on a raincoat and grabbing an umbrella allows us to go forward. We may still get a little wet, but we move on towards our goals. Pathways to success rarely are navigated on just sunny days.
Actually. To achieve goals usually requires grinding through storms, taking an occasional detour, but always maintaining focus on the ultimate objective. I. I was recently talking with a friend who is almost always a glass half full, very positive individual. Now, he has been dealing with several storms, both personally and professionally, and I could tell the weight of it all was starting to show in his demeanor.
He even asked what I would do if I was him. I thought for a moment and told him that I really couldn't answer that because I had no way of seeing the total situation through his eyes as he did. But I did offer that in watching him for many years, I had always been impressed with how he had the ability to control what he could control and to keep his focus on the end game.
Well, after I got to work this morning, I received a phone call from him, and it was a call to thank me for getting him out of his funk. I laughed when he said this, and I told him I didn't remember removing any funk. He then said that I had done so by reminding him to keep the main thing as the main thing and to focus on the important aspects of what he can control.
And to let the rest take care of itself. You know, we all have a choice. When things aren't ideal, we can gripe and complain, or we can prepare for the elements and move forward. We can grab the raincoat, we can grab the umbrella, and we can move out to face the day. It really is a choice, and the choice is ours.
Let's always make the choice to move forward. Monday morning Mojo is production of Cannon Financial Institute; executive producer of Monday Morning Mojo is Sarah Jones.
