Curriculum Outline
Cannon Trust School I: This course is the first in a three-part series focused on developing the technical competencies and skills needed for complex trust administration. We recommend having six to twelve months of related experience before enrolling. Key topics include an overview of the trust business, property law, fiduciary taxation, and various aspects of estate and trust administration. You'll gain a strong foundation in the principles and practices essential for effective trust management.
Cannon Trust School II: As the second course in our three-part series, participants must complete Cannon Trust I before enrolling. Key topics include retirement plans and planning, estate planning for retirement plans, income tax strategies, distribution mechanisms, advanced trust topics, marital deduction planning, generation-skipping transfer taxation, and investment management. You will also engage in practical case studies focusing on gift, estate, and GSTT issues.
Cannon Trust School III: This final course in the three-part series requires successful completion of Cannon Trust I and II. Upon completion, participants will be prepared to take the CTFA™ designation exam, though an application process is required for the CTFA™ designation. Key topics include updates on gift and estate tax, individual income tax, personal finance and insurance, investment performance measurement, advanced generation-skipping, grantor trust rules, split-interest and charitable trusts, and advanced fiduciary income tax.
