Top performers in every field surround themselves with those who inspire them, who seek to build them up, and who push them to reach beyond their current limits. I am Phil Buchanan, executive chairman of Cannon Financial Institute. I designed Monday Morning Mojo to provide you with a weekly spark, a push and motivational insight to live your best life.

Thanks for joining. Good Monday morning. It is Phil here with episode 693 of Monday Morning Mojo. Many moons ago, I injured my right hand in an accident. Now without details, because you certainly don't want to know, I wound up with 23 stitches and all of the accompanying bandages, making my right hand basically a useless club.

I. Now again, being right-handed. This was a challenge to live life because I was having to do so with my opposite hand, in this case my, my left hand. Now, if you've never had to go through a day in your life using only your opposite hand, well, you should consider yourself pretty lucky. Now, if you wish to do a brief experiment tonight, I've got an idea for you.

Just simply brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand, and I mean the whole routine. I want you to put water on the toothbrush using only your left hand. I want you to put toothpaste on the toothbrush using only your opposite hand. I want you then to. Brush your teeth again with your opposite hand.

Then I want you to, to, to rinse using the cup with again, your opposite hand. Now, the good news if you choose to do this is you might actually get the best night's sleep that you've had in a while because you will be totally exhausted. Now, one thing that I wasn't willing to do during my injury recovery period was shave my face with my non-dominant hand.

Uh, it seemed more prudent to let a professional barber do so. Now barbers used to do many shaves over the course of a day or a week, but, uh, that has has gone by the wayside for most. However, I was able to find a very old school barbershop that still did shaves. I wanna tell you if there was ever a silver lining to my injury, it was the experience that I had with that barbershop in getting a professional shave.

It began with a hot towel wrap on my face, and then the barber applied a pre-shave cream and did another hot towel wrap. Next, he brought out a cup some. Pro Brazo shave soap and a shave brush, and he began whipping up a shave lather using the brush in that soap. Now, once that lather was created, he removed the hot towel and then lathered my face using the shave brush.

He then expertly shaved my face. Afterwards, he used a post-shave bracing solution followed by a post-shave balm. Well, I can just tell you my face had not been that smooth since I was a baby. Now I had forgotten about that experience. I guess maybe PTSC or whatever else, but I had completely forgotten about that experience until a recent trip in which I had inadvertently left my shave kit at home.

Again, I probably need to have a checklist for packing going forward, but as luck would have it, I was staying at a fairly nice hotel and they had gift shops that were attached to the hotel. And in one of those shops, what did I find? But Pro Razzo Shave Cream. And that immediately took me back to that great experience I'd had with that barber many, many years before I.

So I gathered some toiletries. I got a toothbrush and toothpaste, a razor, and I got a tube of the razzo shave cream. The gentleman behind the counter complimented me on the Razzo choice, uh, but he said to get the full experience, I really needed to have the, the whole kit, the pre-shave cream, a shaved brush, the post-shave bomb, et cetera.

And I smiled and said, you know, I'm, I'm good with just the cream. He said, look, you can get this kit with all of the things in it. Now they're travel size, but it's only 15 bucks. I looked at him and I said, well, sure, let's go for it, so why not now? Probably too much information here, but I shave in the shower.

I don't shave before the shower. I don't shave after the shower, shave in the shower. So the next morning I followed the instructed routine that was outlined with the kit. I used the pre-shave cream. I whipped up a lather with the shave brush. I used the shave brush to lather my face. I used the the razor to shave with Now.

It caused me to realize something first. I really like the ritual of going through these little routines, but most importantly, I had an incredible shave without any face irritation. Was it as good as I had at the barbershop? I gotta say it was pretty close. It was neat. Well, Razzo is now a part of my shaving routine, whether I'm at home or I'm on the road.

And all this caused me to think that, you know, it's really funny how bad experiences can foster a positive outcome as it did with my injury forcing me to get a professional shave. It's also very interesting how a positive encounter years before. Can this behavior years later, as it did with me in selecting the Proso brand because the professional barber had used it and I'd had a great experience.

But my real big takeaway is that in this day of hyper convenience, disposable cartridge mentality, I was reminded that sometimes the old school tried and true techniques. Often produce the better outcome. I challenge you to think about this the next time you have an encounter with a child or a grandchild, a great-grandchild of a client, because it is in that encounter, it is in that experience that you are laying the groundwork for future perceptions and feelings that individual is going to have towards you and your organization.

And also be mindful that with all the advancements we have with communications, branding, marketing, et cetera, sometimes the old fashioned techniques actually produce the best results. And I believe that's especially true with face-to-face encounters. And just so you know, if that face-to-face encounter is with me, well the day with my face began with an old school shave.

I. I hope y'all have a great week. Monday morning Mojo is production of Cannon Financial Institute, executive producer of Monday Morning Mojo is Sarah Jones.
