Top performers in every field surround themselves with those who inspire them, who seek to build them up, and who push them to reach beyond their current limits. I'm Phil Buchanan, Executive Chairman of Cannon Financial Institute. I designed Monday Morning Mojo to provide you with a weekly spark, a push, and motivational insight to live your best life.
Thanks for joining. Hello, Cannon Nation. It is Phil here with episode 672 of Monday Morning Mojo. I recently had the opportunity to chat with a husband and wife business owner duo. They own and operate a motorcycle and ATV repair business in Winder, Georgia. Now, I'm not a motorcycle guy, but I do have a couple of ATVs and one of them was giving me issues and that's how I came to meet Mike and Michelle.
Mike started working on motorcycles when he was a kid. As an adult, he built a side hustle of motorcycle repair from his home while maintaining a full time job in the industrial machinery business. In 2019, he decided to pursue his passion of motorcycles and ATVs full time. He opened his doors on January 2nd, 2020.
Less than three months later, COVID shuttered his store. Well, it didn't stay shuttered long, because after a few weeks, with his wife and himself being very distraught, They reopened their doors as there were dozens of customers waiting to have their motorcycles or ATVs repaired. You see, riding motorcycles and ATVs is an outdoor activity and people were desperate to be outside.
Now, at this point, only Mike was working in the business, but when they opened back up due to the volume and the demand, Michelle soon joined on a full time basis. Today, they are open six days a week. Their posted hours are from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m., Monday through Saturday. Truth be told, they are there most days from 7 a.
m. to 7 p. m. Their business is incredibly successful. They could expand. They could hire additional staff. Yet, they intentionally keep their business focused and targeted. It seems the harder they work, the more successful they become. Mike and Michelle are a throwback to the days of owner operators. As I chatted with them, both of them referenced comments from their kids and other friends who have asked numerous times what their secret to their success must be.
As they were telling me this story, both laughed at different points as they relayed the comments and the questions. Mike quipped, hard work. That is the great secret. Just work harder than everybody else is willing to do and do what you do with extremely high quality. I found his comments refreshing, because in a day when far too many people are trying to figure out how to do the least level of effort, folks like Mike and Michelle demonstrate an absolute truth.
The harder you work, the luckier you get. You know, it's the fourth quarter of 2024. We're in the final stretches of what I hope for you has been a fantastic year. Many of you are planning for 2025. And identifying ways that you can elevate your business. In some instances, you're thinking about new products, new services, new client niches.
But I want to challenge you to bear in mind that old axiom of the harder you work, the luckier you get. There is no magic bullet in business. It takes a level of effort. It takes a level of ingenuity. Now, of course you can leverage your efforts through partnerships, through strategic hirings. And in many instances, that's the smart thing to do.
But for each of us, I think it bears repeating that keeping the eye on the ball, putting in the time, putting in that level of effort is the ultimate, ultimate secret to success. Best of wishes to you. Have a great week. And we'll talk to you next time. Monday Morning Mojo is a production of Cannon Financial Institute.
