The Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) Designation is a professional certification that demonstrates an advisor or other person serving as an investment fiduciary has met certain requirements to earn and maintain the credential.
Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) Designees can demonstrate that they have met educational, competence, conduct and ethical standards to carry out a fiduciary standard of care and serve the best interests of their clients.
The purpose of the AIF® Designation is to assure that those responsible for managing or advising on investor assets have a fundamental understanding of the principles of fiduciary duty, the standards of conduct for acting as a fiduciary, and a process for carrying out fiduciary responsibility.

Experience Requirements for the AIF®
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree (or higher); and a professional credential
OR - Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree (or higher) or a professional credential
OR - Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience
Requirements to earn the AIF®
- Complete an approved AIF® Training
- Pass the AIF® Exam
- Meet the Experience Requirement
- Satisfy the Code of Ethics and Conduct Standards
- Submit the Application and Pay Dues
All requirements must be met within one (1) year of passing the exam. After one year, a candidate must retake and pass the exam to meet the examination requirement for certification
